Paramore will co-headline the Ulalume Festival with AFI
This fall is booked solid with the top entertaining performers, possibly of all time. Baltimore and the surrounding areas of Towson is jam packed with live concerts and a little something for everyone. With the Virgin Mobile “FreeFest” being just a few weeks ago at Merriweather Post Pavilion, it seems as if that was the kickoff to a rockin’ fall season. Weezer and Blink-182 headlined the 2009 Virgin Mobile Festival at Merriweather in Columbia, Maryland. This being the same stage shared by some bands named The Who and Led Zeppellin….maybe you have heard of them. Judging by the pattern of fantastic performances that will be seen around the Baltimore area in September and October, Towson students have a lot to look forward to this semester.
I know writing papers, studying for exams, and reading books is the most fun a college student could ask for, but sometimes we need a break from that nonsense. As much fun as staying in on a Saturday and finishing a paper may sound, it just doesn’t have the same ring as going to see live music. The school year has just begun and there is a lot of excitement ahead.
Lets start off with possibly one of the most popular bands off all time, U2. The European band will be performing September 29 at FedEx field, home of the Washington Redskins. The “U2 360 Tour” will be covering the United States just after releasing their new album, “No Line on The Horizon.” The legendary band will be performing with the multi-award winning English rock band, Muse. This is definitely something you do not want to miss. October brings students something a little different, and possibly more in their direction of interests. October 27 will be the date of Jay-Z performing at 1st Mariner Arena, right in the heart of Baltimore City. The hip-hop artist/rapper will be promoting his new album, “The Blueprint 3.” Tickets are already on sale, and I highly suggest buying them soon because it will definitely be a sold out crowd. The 1st Mariner Arena is host to yet another legend, Bruce Springsteen. Springsteen might be a little old for the young crowd, but we all know his classic songs, and we all sing-a-long to “Born In The USA” every time it is played. You will not see a better live performance than Bruce Springsteen. The Superbowl halftime singer is always touring the country, but this is an opportunity students should not pass.
The three performances this fall should not be missed, but if you do happen to miss one, then do not miss mtvU’s Ulalume Festival featuring alternative/punk band, AFI, and the “rapidly emerging” pop-punk band, Paramore. The Alternative Press article announced that Merriweather Post Pavilion will be the venue for the Halloween-themed festival hosted by MTV. The festival will include other performances by Kid Cudi and Death By Sunrise (The side project of Linkin Park’s Chester Benninton). In addition, MTV is holding a costume contest and various surprises. Not only that, but the Ulalume Festival will be broadcasted on MTV October 30 during their Halloween-theme week. “The show which takes its name from the Edgar Allen Poe poem of the same name will be sure to celebrate all things spooky and this year’s Halloween.” If college students do anything fun this fall, then it must be the MTV hosted festival. The most celebrated holiday by college students, Halloween, is sponsored by the most watched network by college students, MTV. DO NOT MISS THIS!!!
